[ ] The Inky’s Michael Klein reported yesterday on Food and Drinq that Manayunk is pursuing a “riverwalk” of sorts along the towpath that is to the rear of the buildings on the west side of Main Street in the city neighborhood east of the Schuylkill River.

[ ] Last night marked the premiere of the new M. Night Shyamalan new film The Happening, which, like all of Night’s movies, was set in Pa. A few busloads of townsfolk from Phoenixville, the Chester County town in which part of the film was shot, attended the screening, as did Fox 29’s Jennaphr Frederick, who was back in Phoenixville this morning at the G Lodge, the diner featured at the beginning of the movie.

[ ] A quick stop at Slack’s Hoagie Shack (Oxford Point Center- 110 Lincoln Hgwy., Fairless Hills) yesterday revealed this info: former Phils reliever Mitch Williams, the adept Phils baseball analyst AND salsa king (the dip, not the dance), now has HIS OWN HOAGIE, called, of course, The Wild Thing.

Philly-style Sesame Seed Roll

Williams will be appearing at the Fairless Hills location of Slack’s this Saturday (June 14) from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. and cooking the first 100 Wild Things himself. Really.
Also at Slack’s (from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.): Writers Ray Didinger and Jayson Stark, both of whom will be signing copies of their respective sports-themed books.
A flyer for the event notes that a portion of the proceeds from each Wild Thing hoagie sold this weekend will go to autism research, and, free Mitch Williams and Ray Diddy T-shirts (!) will be available while supplies last. Philly EDGE freelance shooter Brian Hineline was at the loooooong, hawt Roots Picnic at Festival Pier this Saturday, where it was so warm and dewy that even Hineline, one of the coolest people we know, broke a sweat.
Also there: The Roots (whom Hineline said “played a terrific extended version of ‘Masters of War’”), Gnarls Barkley, Deerhoof, Cool Kids, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and young Esperanza Spalding, whose voice and upright bass-ing was outstanding.
