News to reuse: Preston & Steve live from Doylestown, Phillymag story about Council Rock and 911 a joke in MontCo, too

[ ]  Philly EDGE.com has a scheduled day-off Friday. May we suggest you check these folks out if you do not do so already:

Coffee Klatch: A coffee Slurpee, Jenkintown/Abington/Willow Grove loves coffee these days and a Starbucks in Horsham

[ ]   Not sure why you would do this, but if you mix a Slurpee and a cappuccino you get a Slurpuccino. The coffee-flavored frozen drink is available at 7-Eleven stores at 99 cents for a 12-ounce cup; $1.69 for  40-oz.

[ ]    Maybe it’s because even trying to get into the parking lot of the Jenkintown Starbucks or Wawa (click ‘Street View’) is sometimes impossible, but all of a sudden the Jtown-Abington-Willow Grove area is undergoing a coffee shop boom. And no new Starbucks.

Weekend planner: Film in Ambler, Philly Beer Week, Polar Bear Plunge, Erin Expresses

Sublime to ridiculous

[ ]   The weekend sort of starts tonight, at least in Ambler where the Ambler Theater screens Philly artist Zoe Strauss’ “If You Break the Skin You Must Come In” at 7 p.m.
It’s not a Will Ferrell-like flick, yo…Zoe says on her blog that she WILL NOT be there, but go anyway. It’s worth it. Also, check out the Ambler downtown after the show; not bad for the suburbs.

Music News: Dave Matthews in Camden June 3 and 4, new Norristown venue and we’d watch Erin O’Hearn knit, but this is better

[ ]   Pre-sale tickets are already available for the Dave Matthews Band’s shows at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden June 3 and 4. There is also a June 10 date in Scranton and a June 27 show in Hershey (with the Black Crowes opening).
In addition to its past material, DMB will debut songs from its forthcoming record, the follow-up to 2005's Stand Up, which it is currently recording with producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Alanis Morissette).

CBS3 helps women have orgasms

And it’s not even using McWeathery to do it.
Philly EDGE looooves it when a mainstream news source sexes it up.
We do.
Best. Example. Ever.: Last night’s CBS3 feature of Pat Ciarrocchi coaxing some cougar-ish suburban women to go on The Orgasm Diet.

News to reuse: Politics as usual, oodles n noodles and how much for that pizza?

[ ]   Pennsylvania Primary news

-         You can still register to vote (or change your party affiliation, even) in the Keystone State up to March 24. The primary is April 22,  ….Sayin’.

Music News (a better # 3): BucksCo's The Starting Line to "take a break" after current tour

Bucks County band-gone-national The Starting Line, who held an online press conference Wednesday afternoon on AbsolutePunk.net to clarify its future, is planning to “take a break” after it finishes an upcoming tour that begins March 18 in State College, Pa.

Music News: Pavement reunion?, Jack Johnson to play Philly (area) and… two seemed light

[ ]   Sterogum via Entertainment Weekly is hinting at a possible Pavement reunion. Perhaps we can ask Mr. Malkmus about this when he plays the TLA later this month.
Also, we have heard from a reliable source whose ears we trust, that the new Malkmus disc is great. (Stereogum)

Booze news: Philly Beer Week, a restaurant guide you can use, and the Top 50 bars in Philly

[ ]  As a way of “expanding the beer market” (read: making more money), Anheuser-Busch is introducing Bud Light Lime (which is not unlike Miller Chill, which debuted last summer) this May and throwing $35 million to hype it – in case you see pop-up ads showing up on homeless people or whatever the marketing plan is for the new booze. …Oh, and they also debuted clam juice-flavored beer mixed with tomato juice. We shit you not. (USA TODAY)

Track of the Week: Black Crowes

We’ll break the loooong string of local music tracks featured on the Philly EDGE MySpace page by choosing “Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution” by The Black Crowes as this week’s ToTW.

No new, local Crowes dates have been announced, but we get a feeling it won’t be long.

News to reuse: This is going to be a long six weeks, and Christ says no flood

[ ]   After victories in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) has extended the race with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for the Democratic presidential nomination to… Pennsylvania’s April 22 primary. (AP via Yahoo)

-         As if it were planned all along, former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton will be at Penn at 4:30 p.m. today campaigning for her mom. (Inky)

News to reuse (evening ed.): Western ‘burb gets screwed, McWeathery may grab his dinghy and humans hunt animals they can't eat

[ ]   The developer who recently committed to developing Ardmore’s downtown has abandoned the project. (Inky)

The story describes Ardmore’s downtown as “moribund.” …Holy fuck! What do you think of Jenkintown, Norristown, Bristol or Chester?

Philly Sports Backwash: Blog chicks, Chase Utley in new ESPN MLB spoof ad and who are those guys skating over there?

[ ]  The Phillies, who already have plenty of guys blogging away about them, also have at least two female voices tracking their moves. Sort of.

-         Phillies Ballgirl Jocelyn Brown’s (right) Down The Line blog certainly won’t be rife with analysis of which pitcher the Phils should trade for down the stretch, but it will provide an insight (and pictures) into the lives of the Ballgirls, who apparently have tickle fights with the Sixers Dancers all the time. Or not.

News to reuse: Primary function, TransPHormers and just think of the crowd Bart or Homer would get

[ ]   Primary elections being held in four states today could determine the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, while Sen. John McCain (R-Az.) is expected to clinch the Republican nod. (AP via Yahoo)

[ ]   Regardless of whether Pennsylvania starts levying tolls on I-80, the Pa. Turnpike should not see toll hikes higher than those that are already planned for 2009 and beyond. (Courier Times)

News to reuse (evening ed.): Text ordering coming to Wawa, bombs are all the rage, and Lando Calrissian in the city

[ ]   In what can simply be described as the Best. News. Ever. from Citypaper’s clog, Wawa has announced a partnership with GoMobo, a mobile advertising company, which will allow you to text ahead for your sandwich.

Club news: New bar opens on the Delaware, Polymer rocks DigPhilly TV and wait ‘til people have to try to get 18-pack abs

[ ]   Maggie’s on the Waterfront (9242 N Delaware Ave. Philadelphia) opened Saturday just off the Academy Road exit of 95 on the site of the former Whiskeys.

[ ]   Philadelphia WillDo lets us know that two new places - Goodburger (1725 Chestnut St.) and Mad River (1528-30 Sansom Street) - are set to open in Philly soon. Not sure if that affects the earlier rumor that Mad River is supposed to occupy the Grape Street Philadelphia space in Manayunk…unless Mad Rivers are going to be like Wawas.

Suburban grocery war rages on

While Philly EDGE loves markets where the aisles are so small that you can’t turn a grocery cart around in them, there’s something wonderfully, suburban-ly decadent about a grocery store larger than the Pentagon. (Inky)

By summer there will be three such mega-stores nestled around the Bucks-Mont border.

News to reuse: Demsalem, another historical impersonator and Get. Outside. Now.

[ ]   Since November, a voter registration “surge” in Bensalem has pushed the number of Democrats ahead of Republicans in the township for the first time in decades. (Courier Times)

While experts in the story credit the shift to the war in Iraq and grassroots organization, one can’t help but wonder if What-Happens-in Bensalem-Stays-In Bensalem had a special promo…like:
