[ ]   Much needed Good Friday Spiritual Update

-         In case you hadn’t heard (and between Zappos and the NCAA Men’s Tournament, maybe you haven’t), Pope Benedict XVI (Roman numerals are for Super Bowls, Wing Bowls and Popes –Ed.) is coming to America April 15-20. The Pope will spend three days in Washington D.C. and three in New York City, including conducting a mass in Yankee Stadium. No Philly stops L. (UsPapalVisit.org)

-         Pope Benedict XVI has been busy: There are new sins including pollution, drugs and making mad bank excessive wealth. (BoingBoing)
Yet, putting ketchup on a hot dog and not washing your hands after you take a piss goes on unchecked.

-         From a USA TODAY blurb:

When thousands of Catholics arrive in Washington, D.C., to see Pope Benedict XVI in April, they'll be able to swoop up rosaries, hats, T-shirts and other items with the official visit logo, Christ Our Hope, printed on them.
And if they go to one of six D.C.-area Build-a-Bear Workshop stores, they'll also be able to build their own personalized teddy bear wearing a tiny T-shirt with the logo, copyrighted by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The $6 shirt is the first souvenir to clear the licensing process. Build-a-Bear's Mindy Peirce says a portion of shirt proceeds will go to the Christ Our Hope Foundation, which will help pay for the pope's trip. (Bears cost $10 to $20.)

Bear at right ( from CustomMadeBears.com) is somehow NOT the official version of this visit. That bear has a T-shirt with a logo of Pope Benedict XVI sorta shooting a free throw.

Sen. Obama calls WIP (UPDATE: Remarks being questioned)

The blogs (we read most) have posted feverishly today about Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) directly calling in to Angelo Cataldi’s show on 610 WIP-AM this morning.
    Hear it below:

Best. Idea. Ever.: Why doesn’t someone create a cemetery for Eagles fans?

ESPN aired a segment on SportsCenter last night, Fans Forever, which detailed the increasingly popular habit of people who are pre-arranging their post-mortem plans in tribute to their favorite sports team.

While Major League Baseball has urns and caskets, which are available and shown in Clip Two below, the lede was a German soccer club (HSV) who has created a cemetery for its fans next door to its stadium. There are similar concepts in Spain and England.

Suddenly, it hit Philly EDGE like Brian Dawkins does a tight end on a crossing pattern: Why hasn’t someone proposed a cemetery near the Linc (or just off the site of The Vet or somewhere in the city) just for Eagles fans???
(Of course, we mean dead Eagles fans – Ed.)

Honestly, this is the best idea since moist towelettes feeding mayonnaise to tuna fish  text messaging.
    See the segments below.

Philly Sports Backwash: John Chaney featured, Juggernaut defeated and March Madness tired

[ ]   Black Magic, the ESPN special on race integration and basketball, which aired on the sports network Sunday (and will be broadcast again) was outstanding.
Check out this clip detailing the spectacular college and pro play of former Temple basketball coach John Chaney, who had to toil in the non-NBA affiliated Eastern League (which had teams in Sunbury, Scranton, Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre!).

News to reuse: Spitzer’s call girl was a Girl-Gone-Wild, war protests in Morrisville and Bensalem may film its own decay

10
[ ]   Ashley Alexandra Dupre, the call girl linked to now former Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer, made videos for Girls Gone Wild, the girls-taking-their-tops (and more) off entertainment company, in 2003, the company discovered yesterday.
Last week, GGW founder Joe Francis offered Dupre $1 million to get naked for his site. A search of their archives revealed that she had already done so. The offer is now off the table. (AP via phillyBurbs and WWTDD)

According to a "Girls Gone Wild" press release, Dupre visited Miami in 2003 to celebrate her 18th birthday. After fighting with a friend and getting thrown out of her hotel, Dupre found a nearby "Girls Gone Wild" bus, the company said.

She signed legal papers and spent a full week on the bus, filming seven full-length tapes which included nudity and same-sex encounters, according to the company.

The message on GGW: ‘Ashley rode the GGW bus long before she rode the Former Governor of New York.’ More here. Video here.

Joe Francis’ good fortune continues to rival that of Mr. Magoo. And, fwiw, can you imagine tagging video at GGW….

Tech 1: “Ok, label this ‘Ashley.’”
Tech 2: “Dude, we have 1,256 Ashleys; Last initial?”
Tech 1: “D.”
Tech 2: “We already have more than one.”
Tech 1: “Ashley D. Trucker hat.”
Tech 2: “Have it.”
Tech 1: “…and a black thong?”
Tech 2: “South Padre Island, 2001.”
Tech 1: “Damn!…motorboat-ing Jennifer T?”
Tech 2: “That’ll work.”
Tech 1: “Alright…next is Megan…”
Tech 2: “We have 789 Megans…”

Second: Editor & Publisher points out that not every newspaper in the country was a silly fucking lemming wishing to serve as a nationalistic pied piper for President Bush’s war.

Third: Philly EDGE thinks it should be a new law that if a bridge has words on it, they should tell the truth. Like “Trenton Makes The World Takes Camden Look Vibrant” bridge or the “Walt Whitman Can’t Jump” bridge, for instance.

When a car hits someone so hard that they are rendered homeless, it is perhaps time to consider more speed restrictions.

Philly Sports Backwash bonus: Eagles Cheerleader tryout photos: (UPDATE: Now with Spank Bank logo!)

5

The Eagles held a round of cheerleader tryouts this past Saturday.

There were photos taken - like the one at right - you can see them here.

Finals are April 15.

Note the iPod, e-mail, printer and RSS icons to the top right of that photos page. Someone ought to patent a 'Spank Bank' logo (say, a stick figure of a guy with his fist at crotch level) and start allowing these sites to just deliver pics automatically.
Sayin'. (UPDATE: Done! See below)

Again, we give thanks to With Leather, who is apparently looking in all the places we should be today.
