Music News: Music is Our Oil?, and new CD deluge- Aderbat, Dr. Dog, Mutlu, Anthony Green and more

[ ]   Dept. of We Won’t Bet Against Them: Go ahead and laugh, dear reader. (And The Star newspaper picture is funny.) But when 3Kingdoms Entertainment wants to make something happen (like working with Hugo Chavez to do Artists For Heat at the Troc) it often happens. Sayin.’

Their latest idea: MUSIC IS OUR OIL - a world tour and companion film that will send American hip-hop and rock acts to oil producing countries “to barter and trade music for 20 million barrels of oil….Then we want to distribute that oil through gas cards to those struggling individuals,” Mikal Kamil of 3Kingdoms said by phone last Friday.

Kamil says he has already lined up cooperation from The Roots, Erykah Badu, Stanley Jordan, Everlast and other acts, and wants to start reaching out to even larger, more mainstream, artists, as well as community leaders in Philadelphia and Washington.

[ ]   Dept. of Convergence: Three solid CDs from Philly area-based acts dropped recently: We Belong to the Sea by Aderbat (July 22) and Dr. Dog’s Fate and Mutlu’s Livin It this week.
Next big week: First week of August when Anthony Green (Circa Survive, Saosin), Person L with Kenny Vasoli (The Starting Line) and Good Old War (with Keith Goodwin of Days Away) will all drop CDs.
