Bar News: Blue Comet in Glenside is off the block, Squirrel Murphy’s in Warminster and Pabst is the Big Daddy of U.S. brewers

[ ] According to the Montco Sheriff’s Office Web site, the location of rockabilly-suburban hipster (no, really) bar the Blue Comet (106 S. Easton Rd. Glenside/Cheltenham) was tagged for a sheriff’s sale on July 30. It looks as though a last minute rally last Friday and this Monday has stayed that sale.

Thank God! There are very few suburban bars as cool as the Blue Comet: Lionshead bottles, TCM movies and blues and torch standards on the overhead. ...Watching it become, like, Scruffy McDrinker’s would so suck.

[ ]   Touting itself as having “the largest selection of Irish beer and whiskey in the area,” Squirrel Murphy’s (872 E. Street Rd. Warminster; 215.942.4550) is ready for it’s grand opening next weekend (July 25- 27).

[ ]  Now that Bud, Miller and Coors are all no longer domestically-owned beers, Pabst Brewing Co. is now the largest U.S. brewer. Not counting CC Sabathia or Prince Fielder, of course. (Philebrity)
