[ ] Tullytown officials will not allow fireworks at the
St. Mike’s Fair June 23- July 5. Their concern: too many people attending may block the streets as it did at the last show…
in 1995 ??? (
Courier Times)
From the story:
…Fireworks in 1995 drew an estimated 30,000 people to St. Michael the Archangel Church and School on Levittown Parkway in Tullytown.
Spectators stood on Route 13 and blocked Levittown Parkway. At one point, Amtrak police were needed to clear people from the nearby train tracks.
“It was too crowded. It was too dangerous, and I won't take that kind of risk for 20 minutes of fireworks,” police Chief Pat Priore said.
“I was there in 1995 when they last did this,” Priore said. “I was stuck with my patrol car on Levittown Parkway for three hours.”
Rev. Michael DiIorio sent a letter dated May 14 to Tullytown Borough expressing his outrage. …
“Presently there are approximately 32,000 people in Levittown. I firmly doubt that every man, woman and child will attend the St. Michael's Fair on one evening,” he wrote.
Wow. Philly EDGE needs a drink and openly wonders whether it should get into the fireworks business….And it needs you to take a second and click to the top100 songs of 1995. Perhaps officials are concerned about a Hootie and the Blowfish reunion?
[ ] Gas prices continue to be ridiculously fucking high, reach $4 per gallon for regular in Bucks and Montco. (
Courier Times)
From the story:
As he poured $92 worth of fuel into the tank of contractor Bob Somaine's truck, Nick Cardacin explained that wholesalers have been raising their prices almost daily, which forces the stations to charge more.
“It sucks,” said Falls' Somaine, who added he expected the price to continue rising. “There's nothing anyone's able to do about it until things change.”
Indeed. We second “sucks.” All in favor?
[ ] Beer Pong is coming to the Nintendo Wii in June. Find out more
here. (
PR via
Deadspin)
From the release:
Beer Pong, a game born on a college campus in the early 80s, has grown from a college drinking game to a competitive sport in bars across the country. In mid June 2008, Beer Pong is going to be available for WiiWare™, Frat Party Games™ – Beer Pong is the first slated game in the Frat Party Games™ series.
Featuring two distinct competitive games, Frat Party Games™ – Beer Pong will offer a traditional tournament-style game of Beer Pong for one to four players and Speed Pong, during which two to three players compete at the same time, each trying to be the first to eliminate all of his or her cups.
Deadspin/Philly guy A.J. Daulerio sums it up: “So, it's just like Beer Pong...without the beer. …Hopefully, the success of this game will prompt some more game developers to develop Wii versions of "Asshole" and "Fuck Your Neighbor."
[ ] Phillymag has
a solid, interesting story in its new issue about the death of John Fiocco Jr., a College of New Jersey student whose body was found in the Tullytown landfill in 2006. (
Phillymag)
From the story:
The night before, John and some friends had drunk beer at the dorm before heading out to a party at the “Track House,” a ramshackle domicile where several members of the track team lived. The house was a destination for underage freshmen but wasn’t known for being particularly rowdy, and Friday night was no different. John and his friends drank liberally, perhaps indulged in a game of beer pong. Sometime after midnight, they headed back to campus.
Back on the fourth floor, they drank some more. Those with John would later recall that he was definitely drunk, but not dangerously so. Around 2 a.m., he made his way a few doors down to the empty room of a girl we’ll call Jessie. Jessie and John’s relationship was tricky. He had feelings for her; how deeply hers went were complicated by the fact that she already had a boyfriend. It was par for the course for John, who counted myriad girls as friends but, to his continual frustration, none as girlfriend. Still, it wasn’t unusual for John to sleep in Jessie’s bed. With the door ajar, he kicked off his sneakers and climbed under the covers. Between 2:45 and 3 a.m., a friend looked in, saw him sleeping, and shut the door. (
