Philly Sports Backwash: Ry-Ho-Ho-Ho, Penguins celeb blogger and A-Rod to be ONLY third best hitter in Philly next week

[ ]  More than just a phew eyes will be on Reading tonight as flame-throwing Phils farmhand Antonio Bastardo makes his second start for the Double-A Reading Phillies when they take on the Binghamton Mets at home.

Bastardo, who when paired with left-handed Reading reliever Josh Outman gives the Phils two of the best names in all of baseball, took a shutout into the sixth inning of his Double-A debut last Saturday.

[ ]   Just a quick mention that the R-Phils have the Best. Giveaway. Ever. at the game tonight (6:35 p.m.): the Ryan Howard Snow Globe (right).

[ ]   After getting all Flyered Up over the blogging of Angel, let us note that the Penguins, unsurprisingly, have their own EVEN MORE OBSCURE D-list actor as a celebrity blogger for NHL.com: A.J. Buckley of CSI: NY.

His insightful take prior to the Pens-Rangers series was chillingly accurate:

This is a hard series to predict.

The hardest, possibly of the second round.

Of course you know I’m taking the Pens.

I don’t know how many games it’ll take, or how many OTs they’ll need to get it done, but I do know, that at the end of the seires, the final tally will say “Pens win in BLANK.”… (NHL.com)

The scary thing is, of course, that Buckley looks like almost every Philly band guy we have ever met.

[ ]   Former Sixer Charles Barkley channels Ron Burgundy while doing analysis on TNT. (Deadspin)

[ ]  A release from our favorite minor league baseball team, New York Yankees Double-A affiliate the Trenton Thunder, hints that Yanks mega-star, and reigning American League MVP, Alex Rodriguez, who is currently on the disabled list, may rehab in  Trenton next week.

From the release:

…Hunterdon County Democrat Beat Writer Mike Ashmore has said that the tentative plan for Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez includes the chance of him playing rehab games next week. He speculates, "If it were to happen, my guess would be you'll see him Tuesday (5-13) night in the field, and then on Wednesday (5-14) for the 11:05 AM game as the DH."…(Thunder Thoughts)

Well, Philly EDGE doesn’t know for sure, but this would seem like a GREAT way to sell tickets….But what’s the harm.

1-     The weather has been nicer of late and Waterfront Park is a well-maintained facility.
2-     The team may be at the point now where it has a mascot for each individual player (soon  one for each fan).
3-     With Chase Utley and Chipper Jones playing in Philly next week, A-Rod will only be, AT BEST, the THIRD greatest hitter in the region…Shit: Maybe fourth if you look at Burrell’s numbers.
