Food News: The King of Burgers is from Souderton, an Abington Saxby’s, Obama drinks Lager and my bagel looks like a Twinkie

[ ]   BEN-FM (95.7) listener Andrew Sinn of Souderton won Ben FM's Ultimate Burger Competition Sunday at Sequoia Outback in Hatfield by concocting a Cuban-style burger with ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and roasted garlic and Dijon mustard dressing on a crusty roll. Sinn’s burger will now be featured at Marathon Grill locations in Center City and University City.

[ ]   Philly EDGE stopped by the new Saxby’s in Abington a few times last week. This recently-located to Philly chain is definitely trying to grind Starbucks’ beans, so-to-speak.

Our early thoughts…
Pluses:
  • Smooth cup of coffee…smoother even than the new Pike Place Roast.
  • LeBus sandwiches for lunch.
  • Lots of glass=lots of natural light.
  • Chocolate Monkey- A fabulous, calorie-laden mocha and banana blended drink worthy of a fan club.
  • Free wireless.

Minuses:
  • A TV…sigh…a HUGE flat screen TV…showing Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. (Even if it was showing a Jessica Biel sextape, a coffeehouse is not the place. –Ed.)
  • Awkward ergonomics: It seems like one should order where one picks-up. Small space is dominated by a TV lounge space.
  • No newspapers, free or otherwise.
  • Closes way too early (like, 9 p.m.) on weeknights.
