The Suburban Philly Experience: A new motto for Bristol, Newtown comment gets old and titties scare people in Central Bucks

Kevin Brannigan admitted he wrote “LEAVE ME THE [EXPLETIVE (We’re thinking FUCK here. Just a suggestion.- Ed.) ] ALONE” on the garage door of his Pond Street car detailing business after Bristol police cited him in mid-March for parking his car on the sidewalk. The car blocked the way for pedestrians, who had to walk in the street.

He's facing a total of $2,112 in fines, said a clerk in District Judge Frank Peranteau's office. Borough police cited Brannigan $352 each day that the graffiti was displayed, forcing him to remove it on the seventh day.

Brannigan aimed the message at borough officials and the police because he said they constantly harass him.

“I got a threatening letter a few days after I put [the graffiti] up, but other than that [the general public] cheered me on because they know I get harassed,” he said Thursday afternoon. “I've had a few other citations in the past and I paid them, but I'm tired of the harassment. This time I plead not guilty and have the judge set the final fine.”

People cheered, which is awesome. …Bristol: LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE.

Of course the writer can’t help but do it in a “fashion in the suburbs? Really? OMG! Nooo! Tee-hee” style.

Uh… If we may:

1-      You are blogging/writing for Philadelphia magazine, Miss: Where do you think the bulk of your audience is located?
2-      We know the suburbs are an easy target, and acknowledge the contempt with which they are seen, and in some cases, that may be rightly so. But it’s not all Ann Taylor and Banana Republic and Starbucks. That is -a suburb is not a suburb is not a suburb: Norristown is not East Norriton and Jenkintown is not Abington which is not Cheltenham. We couldn’t (and shouldn’t) get away with thinking East Falls is just like ‘Manayunk’ or Fishtown is the same as ‘Northern Liberties.’
3-      Newtown, though it does have puddles of pretense and plasticity, is far from, say, King of Prussia or Cherry Hill. It has a neighborhood and a soul, albeit perhaps one that is Botoxed.
4-      That does not explain why there is no Wawa there, though.

-         Dept. of This is a Suburb You Can Hate On All YOU WANT: Bare asses in Upper Bucks make Warrington gird for onslaught of nudity and live public orgys, apparently. (Intelligencer)

From the story:

Warrington officials discussed this week researching an ordinance to regulate adult businesses. The move was inspired in part by months of headline-generating conflict between Milford Township and Coyotes Show Club over issues of zoning and constitutionality after the club opened in December without township permission.

…Supervisor Rebecca Kiefer said at Tuesday's board meeting she wants Warrington to create airtight regulations protecting residents from the potential impact of adult businesses.

“I think we have to address this,” Kiefer said.

Another impetus for considering a new law was an incident this summer, when an event set to feature cabaret dancers was planned for a farm on Bristol Road.

The Egyptian-themed party at Winding Brook Farm also planned to include alcohol and a DJ. … Warrington will pick and choose the most applicable parts from Bristol Township's ordinance, said supervisor chairman Paul Plotnick.
….
“I don't see Warrington becoming the nudist colony of Bucks County,” Plotnick said said. “I'm not overly worried about it, but you might as well have a law.”

We were truly hoping that Yardley would become Bucks County’s nudist colony.

-         Did you know there was a Marketplace in Doylestown? Neither did we. (Intelligencer)

From the story:

In addition to Truly Yours, 13 retailers call the Marketplace home: Andr's Wine & Cheese Shop; Hunting and Gatherings, an interior design and home accessories store; Main Street Gallery; clothing stores Mode Clothing, the Underground Monkey and Vestiti on Main; gift shops Mima & Co., the Thatched Cottage, Pink Ivy and Nature's Splendor by Melanie; A Rare Treasure, which sells antiques; Beans Beauty, a salon and beauty supply store; and the Pennsylvania Soup & Seafood House restaurant.

Notice: No Subway, no Rita’s, no Boston Market.
