Music News: New Dr. Dog album hits July 22, MySpace bites into the Apple and Illinois visits Hyphen City

 

 

 [ ]   Park The Van Records and Dr. Dog (right) announced that Fate, the new studio album from the Philly-gone-national band of bearded lo-fi wizards, will be out July 22.
      Four things we know about Fate:
 
1-     It was produced and recorded by Dr. Dog at their studio in North Philadelphia.
2-     It has eleven tracks.
3-     It is 43 minutes in length.
4-     Expect “strings, horns and open-hearted vocal arrangements” on it.
 
 
[ ]   MySpace.com is soon-to-debut the MySpace Music service, a digital music store partnership between the online social network and Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group Corp. It will offer downloads, ring tones, streams and videos to compete against Apple Inc.'s iTunes service. (Los Angeles Times)
 

[ ] If you are up for a road trip, head up the Northeast Extension tonight (April 3) to see Bucks County’s own Illinois, whose new CD is thisclose to ready. The band is playing the Fixture Music Series, a monthly music showcase presented by the Weekender, Northeastern Pa’s leading arts and entertainment publication, at Fuse (41 S. Main St. Wilkes-Barre). Also on the bill: Lewis & Clarke and Mike Quinn and Pat Finnerty, who are both formerly of Okay Paddy. Bands start at 10 p.m. Cover is $5.
