See those ladies above?
And they are
undefeated (26 and freakin’ 0!), and
ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.
The hoops juggernaut - which was beating opponents by an average of 19.2 points per game through 19 games, according to a January story by Bucks County Courier Times sports writer Jennifer Wielgus - finishes its regular season at home against Georgian Court tonight (Feb. 27) at 7 p.m. at the Campus Center in NE Philly.
The CCAC playoffs start at the Tigers’ gym on Saturday
According to Wielgus’ story (facts updated from Jan. 31):
Their smallest margin of victory was five points (twice); they've had only had five single-digit wins all year….
“It's crazy,” says Melissa Brooks, a 5-10 junior guard from Levittown. "I can't describe it any other way than it's exciting.” …
This remarkable-yet-tumultuous year started with 12th-year head coach Mike McLaughlin accepting a job at another college, then settling back in at Holy Family after two months of uncertainty. Later, three players lost loved ones in the span of a month.
Junior Shanea Williams lost her grandfather. Senior Kelly Killion lost a very close family friend.
When Brooks' maternal grandmother passed away on Jan. 10, she already was dealing with a torn meniscus in her knee, a pulled ligament in her foot and a hyper-extended elbow.
Brooks — who started all 32 games as a sophomore and averaged 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per game — decided to put off knee surgery until after the season.
Hey Lidge: How’s that knee feel?...Yeah, well a girl in NE Philly would be out there closing games, mofo.
