Turning 21 can affect everybody in a funny way.
Fortunately, New Jersey’s Dan Scully was funny before he turned the legal drinking age earlier this year. The comic said that people of his youthful age are a rarity on the local club circuit.
“There are a couple other guys my age. After us, most are... 28 to 50 (years old).”
Burlington County College student Scully, along with Patrick O’Donnell, Mike Clements and Gene Norris, is scheduled to be at the Elephant & Castle (inside the Clarion Hotel, 1450 Route 70, Cherry Hill. 856.427.0427) for two shows at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31).
He said that the more experienced comedians don’t hold his age against him.
“They’re helpful. They’re very willing to help hook you up, you know, put you on (as an opening comic) a show.”
Using his observational humor to illicit laughs from audiences, Scully cited Dane Cook, Dave Attell and Brian Regan as modern comics who he admired and, at times, have influenced his humor.
“My humor comes directly from the energy that I get on stage. At times, I can be hyperactive, sarcastic and obnoxious… People eat it up.”
