Singles events happening this week.-ED
Looking for LOVE?
A guide to where you can find your match.
…the suburban single
- For the best of the ’burbs singles check out Single in the Suburbs at D’Ignazio’s Townehouse (117 Veterans Square, Media 610.325.4630) on Thursday, November 17 (7-11 p.m.) The charity event featuring Main Line Today magazines’s Most Eligibles on the Main Line, includes more than a dozen beautiful and eligible people like NBC 10 weekend hottie Lauren Cohn. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Buy tickets at
mainlinetoday.com
or by calling 610.325.4630.
…the country single
- Country music legend Johnny Cash was so cool that even if he had dandruff, it wouldn’t dare flake all over The Man in Black’s shoulders.
Now that’s cool.
Judging by early reviews, so is the new biopic “Walk The Line,” which stars Joaquin Phoenix as Cash and Reese Witherspoon as his wife June Carter. The film opens Friday.
- WXTU 92.5 Country Night every Thursday at Michael’s Café (3340 Street Road, Bensalem)
…the sporty single
With the Eagles season effectively ended by Roy Williams, hardcore Philly sports fans (both guys and girls) might be looking to soothe their ills with teams who haven’t broken their hearts.
- The very successful Philadelphia Kixx MISL team (that’s indoor soccer for the acronym-challenged) is set to play at their Wachovia Spectrum home on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. against Milwaukee. While you’ll find avid fans at Kixx games, there isn’t the same sort of rowdy behavior that you might sometimes find at Eagles, Flyers and Phillies games. Call 1.888.888.KiXX for tickets.
- If sporty Jersey girls (and guys) are more your thing, go see the reigning Kelly Cup Champion Trenton Titans at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton. The ECHL hockey team is scheduled to play Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. (South Carolina) and Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Call 609.599.9500 for tickets.
…the sophisticated single
- Crossing Vineyards and Winery (1853 Wrightstown Road, Washington Crossing 215.493.6500 x19) is hosting a Wine Tasting for Singles event on Friday, November 18 at 7 p.m. In addition to learning how to drink properly (yeah, we know, it hasn’t been a problem before), attendees can learn how to pair wine with the correct cheese and, if all goes well, hook up in the process.
Look at it this way, you’ll both look better to each other after a little wine, anyway.
… the nerdy single
With six hours of sci-fi, comics, DVDs, horror, anime and toys, Nerd Con 2005 is a bonanza for those interested in art and entertainment that is “geeked up.” The show/expo is scheduled for Sunday, November 20 from noon to 6 p.m. at The Rotunda (4014 Walnut St. Philadelphia 866.776.4FUN). Featured attendees of this year’s event are “Green Lantern” artist Ethan Van Sciver and the delightfully ghoulish Creighton of cable TV show “Ghoul A Go-Go.”Admission is free.
… the punky single
For the pierced, inked and artistically inclined, check the Kill Pop II festival set for Sunday, November 20 at Ulana’s Nightclub (205 Bainbridge St., Philadelphia).
This decidedly under-the-radar event features modern art (from notables such as Dave Glass and others), music (with the Nite Lights and punk rockers Electric Frankenstein) cheap-ass drinks (meaning affordable, not bad) all delivered with a punky, tatted up vibe.
Doors open at 1 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge. You must be 21 or over to attend.
…the singing single
Singer/songwriter Karen Gross will present her cabaret show, “Sex & the Single Singer” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 17 at Odette’s (274 South River Road, New Hope 215.862.3000). The show contains singing and storytelling with adult-themed humor. Tickets are $15, plus a $10 food or drink minimum. Reservations are required.
…the online single
Check D8scene.com, which allows you to tailor a search to people in your region. Online dating/searching is nothing new, but this is a localized service with a very hip clientele.
…the hit-and-run single
MiniDate.com
This take on speed dating allows interested singles a few minutes with each other to figure out whether or not it’s worth moving forward. Recent events have included a pasta tasting. They’re held at locations all over the region.
…the mature single
If you wanna date a more cultured and refined M.I.L.F, or if you are one, check Social45.com for online info for active singles ages 45 and up.
