Playburbs! An interview with Miss August 2008

Achieving instant fame, becoming the lust object of millions of men… and getting the opportunity to have comedian/actor Pauly Shore spill a drink on your mom: that’s what being a Playboy Playmate offers.

      Ask Kayla Collins.

The Reading-area native is Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for August 2008. The issue, with tennis player Ashley Harkleroad on the cover, hit newsstands (and www.playboydigital.com ) today (July 18).

“Pauly Shore is always around the (Playboy) Mansion,” Collins, whose voice was a bit worn from the press and travel associated with the issue’s promotion, said.
“He’s very funny. He’ll just say or do anything…At my release party, he started shaking me and my drink just went all over my mom (her parents came out for the release)…. It was an accident; it’s cool. I love Pauly….You get to meet so many people, like him, and go to so many places.”

Collins, 21, who was seen doing her test shots on E! The Girls Next Door, was discovered by Playmate scout and assistant photo editor, Holly Madison on a social networking site.
“I added her on my MySpace…. She sent me a message asking me about auditioning and I eventually decided to go out and meet her,” she said.

Tan and blond and very photogenic, Collins, who has modeled for various automotive magazines (Quad, Super StreetBike and Mini Truckin’ ), said she was not nervous.
“Being naked is not a big deal….But this was the first time I have ever had nude photos taken. Playboy is the only thing I’d get naked for.”

The 2005 grad of Twin Valley High School in Berks County now makes her residence in California. During her time in Reading, she worked at a local Friendly’s, as well as at Champions Sports Bar & Grill (217 Catherine St. Reading), where she did a photo shoot for her portfolio pre-Playboy. The management there has already talked to her about coming back for a signing.

“Everybody has been so supportive…A friend of mine has called around to a few bookstores in Reading trying to get an issue and they told her it was sold out, so I think people approve.”
