Booker this morning said he was "surprised. Very, very surprised. It's very successful show. I've been fired before for low ratings, but never for being No. 1."

 

It's been a weird year for Booker, who was with anchor-girlfriend Alycia Lane in December when she was arrested after an encounter with New York police. She was fired from CBS3, though she was cleared of charges.

…Like so many others in the area, Jennifer Tobias-Baker, a Bristol Township resident, has had to pinch pennies in recent months because of the declining economy and rising gas prices.

 

“It's been tough. It's been really tight,” she said.

 

“We're trying to help out a little bit. We know that this is something they can use,” said Stephanie Pansini, WBEN-FM's marketing director.

 

… “It's great to get a break,” said Darren Kirschner, whose wife, Patricia, heard about the deal. The Falls resident was able to get some gas for his sport utility vehicle….

 

“It feels good, because I was getting ready to fill it up, so it's going to save me some money,” said Jones, who is planning to drive to Atlantic City this weekend.

 

The gas station agreed to take part in the promotional deal to give area drivers a break, said Eileen Ahern. “We hope they have a great Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully, this is a little something that will help,” she said.

The owners of Philadelphia Park Casino are protesting plans for a casino at the Valley Forge Convention Center because they said it's too close and might “cannibalize” regional slots revenue.

 

The addition of a fifth casino to the Delaware Valley would not bring in any new customers or generate more gambling revenue for the state, Greenwood Gaming CEO Bob Green told the newspaper. “This doesn't threaten our existence at Philadelphia Park. But it also won't create any new business.

 

… “The idea was for four casinos serving Philadelphia and its suburbs. This facility, if ever granted, wouldn't create any additional revenue but merely cannibalize on the slots revenue.”

 

With 2,912 slot machines, Philadelphia Park continues to bring in more business than any other casino in the state.
