Booze News: AJ’s Sports Bar is now McStew’s, new ‘burbs beer and local beer fests this weekend in Yardley, Media and city

[ ]   AJ’s Sports Bar (5316 New Falls Road, Bristol Twp.) officially changed over to McStew’s Irish Sports Pub on Tuesday. (Courier Times blog)

From the post:

McMaster, 46, who has worked at AJs since it opened in 1987, bought the business with partner Tom Tyler from Tom Lien, 72.

McMaster said he plans to market the newly named establishment as “a sports bar with Irish flair.”

He said he was changing the name of the bar to give it a fresh start, citing negative comments that people have made about AJs in the past.

Philly EDGE wishes them the best of luck.

[ ]  The state Supreme Court will spend the next few weeks mulling over a liquor license awarded to a Sheetz convenience store (think Wawa but in western PA.) four years ago because it had the state-mandated space for eating and seating.

Lawyers for beer distributors are urging the state Supreme Court to rescind the license issued by the LCB, and ban takeout sales of six-packs unless the business in question allows the beer to be consumed on the premises. (Metro)

The concern? …From the Metro story:

Vince Cicione, whose family has owned a beer distributor at 21st and Moore Streets since the end of the prohibition in 1933, said city distributors won’t be as affected as suburban distributors if the Supreme Court rules businesses like convenience and grocery stores can carry beer.

“There aren’t many grocery stores around here,” Cicione said. “But if you’re a distributor in a shopping center and the Acme store gets a license, you’re doomed.”

Do you want to pay a local distributor or a grocery chain which is more convenient for you? Either way A-B, Miller, Coors, etc. all still get theirs.
