Food News: FlavorFest, The Garbage Plate and the 9th Street Italian Market Fest pays tribute to Johnny Marz

[ ]   The first annual Great Pennsylvania FlavorFest is set for Memorial Day weekend, May 24 and 25, on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate and Winery (Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, Route 72, ½ mile south of PA Turnpike Exit 266) in Lancaster County.
Pennsylvania-based food, beer and wine offerings “and the finest in Pennsylvania artisan crafts” will be on display and available for purchase. We’re talking 16 wineries, six breweries and a shoo-fly pie load of food merchants.
Celebrity chef Jim Coleman and nationally-known beer and spirits guy Lew Bryson of Newtown, will each conduct two presentations on both Saturday and Sunday. Many other food demos and products will be featured as well.

Just for shits and giggles, wouldn’t it be GREAT to have a FlavorFlavFest in Dutch Country?

[ ]   In case you missed it Monday, here’s a clip of Philly’s Silk City Diner on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on The Food Network.

[ ]   And while we’re tipping hats to Phoodie, we’re also salivating at their uncovering of two Philly dishes we know we will try soon:

The Garbage Plate – “two beef patties, macaroni salad, fries and raw onions with a mustard pan sauce”- at The Ugly American.

-  The Chip Butty – cheese, fries and butter on a hoagie roll – at O’Neals.

[ ]   Dept. of Because It HAS TO: McDonald’s is giving away its Southern-Style Chicken Biscuits and Sandwiches all day tomorrow.

…This created a stir in Center City as evidenced here…and here. There were Mummers and unicycles and Jennifer Aniston doing the Chicken Dance and… LOOK – we told youse – it’s a really ordinary fucking sandwich. Think of it like making out with someone really hot, who doesn’t kiss. Well. At. All.

[ ]   One of Philly’s most underrated food fests, the 9th Street Italian Market Festival, is set for 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. both Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18.
Aside from food (we’re talking multiple varieties of hot, homemade sauce and pasta, fresh meats, pizza and cannoli worth dying for), there’s music, crafts AND you can check out the inaugural John Marzano Halfball Tournament, which is about as awesome a way as we can think of to honor the late former major leaguer from South Philly.
