Bar experience made better: Sign Language Karaoke

Heard a radio spot for upcoming "Live Band Karaoke" at Paddy Whacks (the only one NOT in NE Philly).  Interesting concept, though one with the potential to be a real train wreck as the night gets later; like when the band "kinda" knows the song and the singer "kinda" forgets the lyrics?

Obviously, people are tired of the cliche karaoke experience: toupee-wearing accountants singing "War Pigs" and FUPA-sporting middle-aged women singing "Before He Cheats." sigh

But there is hope.

A few recent trips out to local bars in the Glenside-Abington-Jenkintown region have produced sightings of an inordinately great amount of hearing-impaired folks at bars ( No idea why...one must have been a holiday party; there were like 60 people doing sign language at the bar).

So, because of the increased sightings of deaf people (and because the bartenders at Vintage don't have the damn decency to flirt back), it left me wondering: Why isn't there a local ASL Karaoke?

Don't think it would be cool? Well, take this...

...which, of course, is not in American Sign Language, but you get the idea. Those with knowledge of ASL could use that method; everyone else can improvise.

And this girl (though her You Tube clips need better audio feeds, and she does a lot of country) is all over this medium.

So, if we can have Rock, Paper, Scissors, Drunken Spelling Bee, Dancing With the Stars and Kiss For Cash, can't we get some ASL Karaoke up in this bitch?
