Great American Diner and Pub
1201 E. Lincoln Hwy.
Langhorne
215.943.4300
Hours: Diner open 24 hours
(The Pub closes daily at 2 a.m.)
Scene: It’s a diner. No…wait… it’s a pub. Hey…it’s both!
Though the overwhelming square footage of the Langhorne location of the GAD&P is dedicated to dining areas that serve suburbanites breakfasts, lunches and dinners from its vast menu, a small pub area sits off to the right of the interior of the business.
High bar stools ring around a small - but always active - bar counter area, with several high tables tucked behind the rear counter. A few TVs are tucked away too. An HDTV hook-up comes soon (this week?).
The small area fills up quickly, usually with people in their 20s and 30s, and an occasional middle-aged straggler. College-aged hotties and teens often roam around the dining area, some perhaps anticipating turning 21.
Staff: A single male has staffed the bar at every visit we’ve made to “The Pub.” There’s not that much room behind the counter anyway, so that’s probably for the best. The various bartenders have been quick, courteous and knowledgeable about the region, drinks and sports. Cute servers, some in pig-tails, bop around the area and wait on tables in the nearby smoking section of the restaurant.
Food: The menu has pages of food options from appetizers to burgers to sit-down meals to breakfast to… it’s a lot of work.
Don’t bother reading it all, you don’t have that much time. No one does. Breakfast is a can’t-miss option, the Baked Potato Soup and any appetizer are solid, safe and fairly cheap choices.
The best part is that the kitchen is always open. Even after the “Pub” area has to stop serving liquor, the “Diner” is there for you, sort-of like a booty call for your belly. Anyone who has ever been told “sorry, kitchen closes at 10” someplace else knows how sweet a situation this is.
Sounds: While earlier visits have featured the Pub’s digital jukebox blasting sludge-y modern rock, this night featured early ‘80’s pop hits including several Michael Jackson songs which had heads bobbing in the dining area. A throwback play of the Hall and Oates hit “Private Eyes” had bar-goers clapping in-sync with the chorus.
Sometimes, you just can’t help it. “Private eyes...(clap) They’re watching you. (clap, clap)”
Games: There was a skill crane, but the prizes weren’t that cool. Not surprisingly, it wasn’t seeing a lot of action from customers. And Megatouch, of course.
Parking: Plenty, in lots located all around the building. They do not seem to connect, but actually do. Those of you silly enough to drink and drive should view the strange angles of the lot as a field sobriety test; if you can’t figure out how to get out of the GAD&P lot, hand over your keys.
Most Popular Drink: Yuengling Lager pints are $1.75 from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. -1 a.m. Additionally, the Pub does offer quite a few signature mixed drinks.
Overheard: “Dude, we’re getting really serious, and shit… We’ve even been talking marriage, and shit. We really get along...” – a 20-something guy to his similarly-aged male friend after his girlfriend went to the restroom.
Good luck, dude. Hope you don’t get divorced, and shit.
Cost: Two pints of Lager plus tip: $6
