Blue Fog Media, a suburban Philadelphia-based company, is set to begin the process of finding contestants for the Next American Porn Star reality show, with a three-day, open casting call at Club Flow in Philadelphia this weekend (April 21-23).
“We’re looking for people who are willing to be uninhibited; people who will do anything to win,” Tim Wenhold, a representative of Blue Fog Media said.
Chosen contestants will be among the 24 competitors featured on the company’s Web-based reality show which it hopes to broadcast via the Internet later this year. According to the show’s Web site (
www.naps.tv ), future casting calls are scheduled to be held in New York and Los Angeles in the next few weeks.
“It’s not your father’s porn, it’s different,” Wenhold said. “It will be formatted just like any television show, but you’ll see the behind-the scenes stuff too.”
According to the press release from the company, the Next American Porn Star is geared toward “anyone who’s ever watched an adult film and thought they could do better.”
Wenhold said the show, which will record scenes in and around Philadelphia and other locations, will focus on the personalities of the contestants and follow the day-to-day activities of the ordinary men and women who commit to trying out for a life of porn. He said there will be pornographic situations and challenges included in the show.
“There will be sex. Real sex… It wouldn’t work if we didn’t show it. People would feel ripped off,” Wenhold said.
After viewing the program, subscribers to the NAPS site will then vote on those contestants they want to see remain on the show. The site states the winner of each contest will receive “a $25,000 contract to star in (their) very own feature-length movie.” Wenhold indicated that the show will be highly interactive, with subscribers voting on what acts and scenarios they most want the contestants to be involved in during each week’s broadcast.
“(Subscribers) will be able to instant message the stars… They’ll guide the show. We think they’ll be more likely to watch if they know that the stars will be doing what the audience wants to see,” Wenhold said.
According to Wenhold, NAPS pre-subscribers are 70 percent male, 20 percent couples and 10 percent female.
“We’ve been linked to by a few swingers’ sites,” Wenhold said. “We feel that they’ll have an interest… What we want to do is take pornography out of the bedroom and bring it into the living room. A few years ago we couldn’t have done this, but we’re able to distribute in a world with less barriers now.”
Thus far, Wenhold said he hasn’t met with any protest from anti-porn groups.
“I do expect that someone, somewhere will (protest)… but as of yet, no,” he said, adding that the NAPS site “fully adheres to the most stringent filtering system. We want this to be entertainment for those 18 and older; for adults.”
While the company has only been advertising the casting call for a few weeks, Wenhold said it has already attracted a diverse group of interested potential contestants.
“So far we’ve had everything from aspiring models who want to cross over into the adult business to truck drivers. One girl was an admin(-istrative assistant). She went down a list of questions like it was any other job,” Wenhold said, adding that more than 40 people have contacted NAPS thus far.
“This is a rare opportunity to break into the business,” Wenhold said. “We think people will take advantage of it.”
